Soft Tissue Masses

Lipoma

A lipoma is a soft, fatty lump under the skin. Usually benign, but removal may be recommended if it grows, causes discomfort, or needs confirmation.

About This Condition

About lipomas

A lipoma is a noncancerous fatty growth that usually develops slowly beneath the skin. Most lipomas are harmless, but any new, growing, painful, or unusual lump should be evaluated.

A lipoma may be removed if it is painful, enlarging, bothersome, pressing on nearby tissue, or if testing is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Dr. Talbert evaluates the lump and recommends whether removal is appropriate.
